It’s left me at home with lots of free time, but also with lots of time to observe the happenings of my West Town ‘hood which I thought was pretty safe. But, it’s starting to get a little sketch….ier. </p> <p>The other day on my way to hail a cab, a man pulled up in a Ford van, waves me over, points to his gas meter and asks, “Do you speak English?” I, of course, say, “Yes.” He then proceeds to ask me for gas money as he’s running on E. Once in my cab, I passed the van all the way up on Milwaukee. He obviously wasn’t hurting that bad. </p> <p>Yesterday, leaving my apartment with a friend, a man comes up to us waving his sunglasses and ID in front of us asking for gas money. He points at a white van parked on the side of the street, says he’s form Wheaton and needs gas money to get home. We refuse and walk on. “Not even a cigarette?” he pleads, and makes some sort of disappointing sighing noise. </p> <p>This morning, that same white van pulls away. He wasn’t the owner or driver. </p> <p>Today. Who knows.
